So, what’s this podcast really about? 

I spent eighteen years building a career in telecommunications, followed by another seven years in banking. 

That’s twenty-five years in the corporate world! Then, at fifty-two years old, I got laid off. 

And instead of polishing up my résumé and chasing another corporate job, I decided I’d had enough. 

After twenty-five years, I was calling it quits! 

It was time to take a run at early retirement! 

Not because I was rich. 

Not because I had everything figured out. 

But because I’d spent twenty-five years working to make a living. 

Now I wanted to find out if I could make a life! 

And that’s where the NorthAmericanDarrell adventures really begin! 

My podcasts take you around the world: from the beaches of Mexico and the Philippines to Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, and Europe. 

You’ll hear about feeding elephants in Thailand, sleeping in a former jail in Switzerland, exploring the Caribbean, and traveling halfway around the world to save money. 

And yes, spending forty-one and a half hours getting home just to save over a thousand bucks! 

Nobody said early retirement was glamorous! 

You’ll also hear about geoarbitrage. 

That’s a fancy way of saying I stretch my money further by living and traveling where everyday costs can be lower. 

I talk about real retirement budgets, apartment rentals, cheap flights, slow travel, and the lessons I’ve learned living in different countries. 

And I don’t sugarcoat things! Sometimes I nail the budget. 

Sometimes I blow it completely! 

Which gives me plenty more stories to tell! 

But this podcast isn’t just about travel or saving money. 

It’s about getting older, rethinking retirement, finding freedom, and deciding what really matters. 

I’m approaching fifty-five, and I’m discovering that retirement isn’t only about the size of your bank account. It’s about what you do with the time you’ve got. 

Maybe you’re dreaming about traveling somewhere new. 

Maybe you’re wondering whether you can afford to retire. 

Or maybe you’re simply tired of doing the same damn thing every day! 

You don’t have to quit your job or move halfway around the world to change your life. 

Sometimes it starts with one decision. 

Take that trip. 

Try something new. 

Stop putting your dreams off until someday. 

I’m not telling you how to live. 

I’m sharing what happens when an ordinary guy decides to give a different life a shot. 

The victories, the mistakes, and the occasional spectacularly questionable decision!
